NIGERIAN ELECTIONS- Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom Parallels.
#NIGERIA- Bayelsa & Akwa Ibom Parallels.
The New Political ruling party in Nigeria, All Progressives Congress (APC), are trending on the same colors like the former ruling party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Nigerians saw the arrogance and recklessness of the PDP in the fifteen plus years of ruling Nigeria. PDP adopted a winner- takes- all mantra during their reign. In elections, PDP wanted to win all states at all cost. Apparently these politicians are deluded that a one-party state is all they need to be numero uno. Not so, never is and never will be.
Nigeria needs a virile, smart, effective opposition political party, for its democracy to be deepened and result oriented. It is foolhardy for any ruling party to think that it must win all thirty something states in Nigeria. If APC is a “CHANGE” political party why then adopt old ways that took Nigeria into depressive growth?
APC in Bayelsa State and Akwa Ibom states presented, tainted and problematic candidates for its gubernatorial elections. These candidates just few months ago were part of the ruling PDP, and also these two candidates, Timipre Sylva (Bayelsa) and Umana O. Umana (Akwa Ibom), were part of the ruling and running political structures of their states when PDP was in charge of those states. If APC was really a change, political party was there no “clean” and change candidate they could have presented to the people in these respective states?
The election results in Bayelsa State last weekend, is a clear indication that Nigerians are smart enough (may be now), to discern this political shenanigans. If Timi Sylva loses (which am sure he will), then APC must let go and allow the opposition be. It is good for Nigeria, win some lose some. If APC loses in Akwa Ibom (which they will), Let Go APC, and let Nigeria be.
The beauty of politics is that the Nigerian people will find its level somehow, some day. “Water no get enemy” (Fela Kuti).
